The climate and the beaches of Murcia, make tourism prone to so-called sunshine. The Murcian coast called Costa Calida, has a length of 170 km, where alternating large sandy beaches with smaller coves and cliffs. It also has the Mar Menor, a lagoon with multiple possibilities for tourism. As separation between salt lake and the Mediterranean Sea, stands La Manga del Mar Menor.
Of the 192 beaches in the region classified, 21 are classified blue flag and another 19 have the Q for Tourist Quality awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE), an agency of the General Secretariat of Tourism of the Ministry of Economy , making it the third region with more beaches certified with this title, with Cartagena, 10, the Spanish town with more beaches that have this rating.
The tourism potential is complemented by a growing interest in cultural tourism and city, concentrating on the four main historical centers: Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca and Caravaca de la Cruz. The Roman Theatre of Cartagena is the monument and museum space most visited region.
The Murcian landscape is more varied than it sounds, and offers a high range of sports and adventure like hiking, caving, thermal flights (hang gliding, paragliding), climbing, cycling, horseback riding, rafting river (rafting, canoes, kayaks), hunting and fishing. Most are concentrated in Espuña, Valle de Ricote and Cieza Calasparra and Northeast Region. Rural tourism is also booming, mainly around Caravaca de la Cruz, Totana, Moratalla, Cieza and Cehegín
